What is dental bonding?

Dental bonding is a treatment that restores damaged teeth using a plastic resin material. The My Tooth Place team may suggest dental bonding if you have dental issues, such as:

  • Chipped teeth
  • Cracked teeth
  • Severe staining that doesn’t improve with teeth whitening
  • Gaps between teeth
  • Minor crookedness

Dental bonding is an effective way to improve your teeth’s appearance without undergoing major dental procedures.

What is the dental bonding process like?

The My Tooth Place team lightly etches your tooth’s surface. Then, they paint a powerful bonding liquid onto the tooth. After the bonding liquid sets, the team smooths a small quantity of plastic resin onto your tooth.

Plastic resin is very malleable, allowing the team to shape it to fill gaps, build up a tooth, or even create a whole new tooth front similar to a veneer.

After the plastic resin is in place, the team trims, smooths, and polishes it to perfect the appearance. The team then uses laser dentistry techniques to harden the resin.

Should I choose dental bonding or porcelain veneers?

Dental bonding and veneers are both good ways to conceal imperfections in your teeth. But the processes are quite different. Some important considerations include:

Time investment

Dental bonding is a good choice if you want a big change in just one appointment. In contrast, veneers require two appointments at My Tooth Place.

Longevity

On average, dental bonding lasts for around 3-5 years. At that time, you’ll likely need a repair to maintain your tooth’s appearance. Usually, veneers last for more than 10 years.

Material durability

Plastic resin is quite durable, but unfortunately, it’s not as strong as porcelain. It’s more vulnerable to chipping, cracking, and staining. Porcelain has fewer pores than composite resin or even natural tooth enamel, making it quite stain-resistant.

Cost

Dental bonding is much less expensive than porcelain veneers, making it a great budget-friendly option for enhancing your teeth.

The My Tooth Place team can discuss all tooth restoration options to help you select the best way to enhance your smile.
